There has been an English Theater Club at our
school since 2004. Usually, pupils from classes
8 to 13 are participating in the performances.
In January 2005, we performed our first play: our own adaptation
of Oscar Wilde's CANTERVILLE GHOST.
In March 2006, we stage ARSENIC AND OLD LACE -
best known through the film adaptation with
Carry Grant acting the lead role of Mortimer Brewster. The group
actually adapted the play a little, as some references in the
play are rather outdated. In the original play, for instance, the
two elderly ladies live together with their nephew Teddy, who
thinks he is Theodore Roosevelt. In our version, this nephew is
called W., believing he is the current president of the United
States and digging for oil in Texas (the cellar). We altered some
more details and added some allusions to current US politics to
make the play more amusing.
